Xbox Series X|S won’t turn on

Series X and Series S have an internal power supply that works in every region. After a power surge it can need a reset before the console will start again. Microsoft recommends trying every step below before assuming the power supply is faulty.

Xbox Series X|S won't turn on

Symptoms
The console doesn't respond to the power button.
Documented cause
The internal power supply needs resetting (often after a power surge), a faulty outlet or cable, or a hardware fault that needs service.[1]
  1. Reset the internal power supply. Unplug the power cord from the console, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in and press the Xbox button on the console.[1]
  2. Check the outlet and cable. Confirm the outlet works with another device, the cable is firmly seated at both ends, and it's the cable that came with the console for your region.[1]
  3. Request service. If it still won't turn on, submit a service order through Device service and repair.[1]

Slow start, not a fault

In Shutdown (energy saving) mode the console can take up to 45 seconds to start, and it only starts from the Xbox button on the console or controller. Sleep mode starts faster but uses more power. Both settings are under Profile & system → Settings → General → Power options.

If the console turns itself off during use rather than not starting, Microsoft points to ventilation. Series X needs at least 4 cm of clearance above it; see Xbox Series X specifications.
