Wii RVL-001 vs RVL-101 vs Wii mini: model differences
Nintendo released three Wii models. The serial number prefix is the quickest way to tell them apart.
| Model | Released | Serial prefix | GameCube discs/controllers |
|---|---|---|---|
| RVL-001 | November 2006 | LU, LB | Yes |
| RVL-101 | October 2011 | KU, KB | No |
| Wii mini (RVL-201) | not stated | HW | No |
The RVL-101 sits horizontally and otherwise works like the RVL-001. The only differences are the missing GameCube controller sockets and memory card slots. The Wii mini also lies flat, drops online play and SD card support, and has a single USB port.
Wii games affected on RVL-101 and Wii mini
Games that need the GameCube controller ports won’t work. Nintendo names Active Life: Explorer, Active Life: Extreme Challenge, Active Life: Magical Carnival, Active Life: Outdoor Challenge and Ultimate Party Challenge. Dance Dance Revolution titles, including Disney Grooves and the Hottest Party series, have limited functionality.
