Two battery versions
Nintendo’s UK specification page lists two versions of the console: one with a user-replaceable battery (5,172 mAh, about 441 g) and one where the battery can only be replaced for a fee through Nintendo Customer Support (5,220 mAh, about 401 g). The US page lists only the 5,220 mAh battery. Nintendo gives battery life as roughly 2 to 6.5 hours, depending on the game.
TV output and VRR
Through the dock, the console outputs up to 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps, or 120 fps when 1920 × 1080 or 2560 × 1440 is selected. In handheld and tabletop mode the maximum is the screen’s 1920 × 1080.
The built-in screen supports VRR up to 120 Hz. VRR on a TV came later: system version 23.0.0 added it for TV mode. It needs a Switch 2 dock update, and both the game and the TV have to support it.
Nintendo Switch 2 dock
| Connectivity | |
|---|---|
| Ports | 2× USB (USB 2.0) on the side; system connector, AC adapter port, HDMI port, LAN port[5] |
| Physical | |
| Dimensions | approx. 115 × 201 × 51.2 mm (H × W × D), including feet[5] |
| Mass | approx. 383 g[5] |
The dock from the original Nintendo Switch is not compatible with Switch 2. Nintendo also says the HDMI cable from the original Switch won’t work because the cable standards differ, and recommends the cable that comes with Switch 2.
Storage
The 256 GB of internal UFS storage can be expanded with microSD Express cards only, up to 2 TB. Standard microSD cards from a Switch can only be used to import screenshots and videos. See Switch 2 microSD card requirements.
