What differs between the Z2 Extreme and Z2 models

  • Processor: Ryzen Z2 Extreme (8 cores, 2.0–5.0 GHz) or Ryzen Z2 (8 cores, 3.3–5.1 GHz).
  • Memory: both have LPDDR5X-8533 chips, but they run at 8000 MT/s on the Z2 Extreme model and 7500 MT/s on the Z2 model, which Lenovo attributes to platform limits. Memory is soldered and can’t be upgraded.
  • USB4 display output: DisplayPort 2.1 with up to 8K 30 Hz on the Z2 Extreme model, DisplayPort 1.4 with up to 4K 60 Hz on the Z2 model. Both drive up to two external monitors over USB-C.
  • Storage: both use a PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 2280 slot. The Z2 Extreme model is offered with 512 GB or 1 TB M.2 2242 drives, or a 2 TB 2280 drive. The Z2 model tops out at 1 TB (2242).

Controllers and modes

The controllers detach. Each has a charge-only USB-C port, and together they weigh under 210 g, against about 920 g for the complete unit. The right controller has a 24 × 24 mm touchpad and a mouse wheel, and the system lists a mouse sensor. For FPS mode, you flip out the stand, switch FPS mode on and put the right controller on its dock, which comes in the bundled carry bag. The system can also be docked to a TV through a USB4 port.

The 74 Wh battery supports Rapid Charge, reaching 50% in 30 minutes. Lenovo lists a 65 W USB-C PD 3.0 adapter, though which adapter ships, if any, depends on the country.
