GameCube controllers on later consoles
| Device | With | Status | Conditions / notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo GameCube controller | Wii U | Requires adapter[3] | Only via the GameCube Controller Adapter, and only in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U; not in Wii mode or system menus. |
| Nintendo GameCube controller | Wii (RVL-001) | Supported[4] | RVL-001 has GameCube controller sockets and memory card slots; later models removed them. |
| Nintendo GameCube controller | Wii (RVL-101) | Not supported[4] | |
| Nintendo GameCube controller | Wii mini (RVL-201) | Not supported[4] |
- Wii RVL-001 (the original vertical model) has GameCube controller sockets and memory card slots and plays GameCube discs. Nintendo removed them from the RVL-101 and the Wii mini. See Wii models compared.
- Wii U doesn’t support GameCube software. Its spec page says GameCube accessories aren’t supported, but the later GameCube Controller Adapter works in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U only. It doesn’t work in Wii mode or the system menus. The adapter supports standard, WaveBird and licensed GameCube controllers. It has two USB plugs. The black plug alone is enough to play, but rumble needs the grey plug too.
- Nintendo Switch / Switch 2: see Switch accessories on Switch 2.
The adapter doesn’t work on the Wii.
